| Deanna Yusoff |
 |
Actress, singer, songwriter, composer, model and television personality, Deanna’s first foray into the limelight was through a successful modeling career in Malaysia and Singapore. Beautiful, articulate and versatile, she quickly charmed her way into the hearts of many whilst appearing in various commercials for international brands such as Salem, Head & Shoulders, L’Oreal, Nescafe, American Express and SK-II.
In 1991, Deanna got her first taste of acting when she clinched the lead role in theatre play Couples de Champagne at the Theatre de la Cite de Fribourg, Switzerland. Having whetted her appetite for acting, she went on to study the art by attending various courses and workshops in Switzerland and Citylit London in the UK.
Deanna began her film debut in December 1991, playing the lead role in Malaysian film Selubung, which earned her the Best Actress Award at the 10th Malaysian Film Festival 1992, followed by two other box-office hits, Abang 92’ and Ringgit Kassorga.
In 1998, having won the hearts of audiences in Malaysia and Singapore, Deanna raised the bar and set her sights to international stardom by acting alongside as a leading role with acclaimed French actor Richard Bohringer and Pierre Arditi. In March 1999, Deanna played her famous role ever: Lady Thiang, wife to Chow Yuen Fatt’s King Chulalongkorn in the sensational 20th Century Fox feature film, Anna and the King (1999). Her latest movie, a horror/suspense thriller Chermin, was released in Malaysia in March 2007 and screened at the Udine Film Festival in Italy and the Fantastic Film Festival in Puchon, Korea.
In between her hectic schedules, Deanna still found time to pursue her first love in stage acting. She debuted on the Malaysian stage in 1995 in a monologue, Rain by Malaysian playwright Malik Imtiaz Sarwar. It was also in East Once Hundred theatre’s Haze Fever (1997) where Deanna experienced her first “comedy” performance. Throughout the years, she has received numerous media accolades in theatre acting.
Deanna further expanded her talent repertoire to include being a professional television performer, dazzling audiences in NTV7’s popular sitcom Spanar Jaya and also in hit soap opera series Idaman, which ran for 165 episodes (1998-1999) on both national and cable channels in Singapore and Malaysia. She also went on to play leading roles in various Malaysian telemovies, including award winning telemovies Amy Anuar (1997), Rupa Rupanya (1995) and Dunia Rees & Ina (1995).
No longer a stranger to Singapore, she was invited for a special appearance in local hit Under One Roof and for a supporting role in Shiver in 1997. In October 2004, Deanna was featured in MTV Asia’s serious Rouge, a Charlie’s Angels spoof which saw Deanna totally breaking away from her previous roles and her own personality by reinventing herself as Zock, a cold, calculative and sexy villainess who is totally bereft of emotion. Recently, Deanna was also seen on Singaporean’s Arts Central Channel in Random Acts.
With her poise, elegance and immaculate diction, Deanna cruised into the arena of television’s hosts and presenters with her usual panache and style, starting with the Extreme Games ’95 in Newport USA. She then went on to host many highly acclaimed programs including TV3’s advertising and marketing program, The Brand, and Songket – A Journey to Remember, a TV3 program dedicated to one of Malaysian’s local heritage and also a tribute to the late Datin Sri Endon.
Deana successfully reinvented herself again, this time as an emcee for live events. Since 2001, she hosted numerous road shows and prestigious events organized by international brands such as DIGI, Guess, Dunhill, Porsche, and Schenker, as well as official events for Tourism Malaysia and Sabah Forestry.
Whilst studying in Switzerland, Deanna discovered within herself a talent in singing, which naturally complemented her acting skills, making her a well-rounded performer. Deanna was quick to develop her new found talent and began to perform as a backup vocal at various concerts and for music albums. She was also featured in the theme song of Malaysian film Selubung. Deanna has since enjoyed a degree of success as a recording artist, with 2 solo albums Divide & Continue (1995) and F I X (2000) under her belt.
In a truly “Deanna” fashion, Deanna composed and wrote the songs on both her albums. Deanna has also performed live in various shows around Malaysia and Singapore. In another test of her talents, Deanna is currently also performing vocals for jazz performances.
