Shabir

After winning an inaugural idol search competition in 2005, Shabir came into the scene with a "Big Bang". His debut album, “Alaipayuthey” (Rockin’ Waves) which was appreciated by industry professionals remains one of the best selling local Tamil pop albums ever. It has hit the airwaves of Malaysian radio and was released in early 2007 and has since remained a favourite among Shabir’s supporters in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Shabir is seen as the most enterprising artiste of this generation's Tamil Pop scene and he has been contributing to the local arts scene ever since. Shabir debuted as actor when he took the lead role in the drama “Asaigal” which was well received by supporters. He has also hosted and video jockeyed the “MTV styled” song request program “Hello Vasantham”.

A versatile artiste who, apart from singing, also writes and composes his tracks. Shabir writes in both English and Tamil. Though he's known for experimentation, the singer's main genres will remain urban-influenced Pop, Hip-Hop and R & B.

Tell us more about…

The craziest thing you have ever done?
When I when to Bangkok at the age of 17 with my big brother, I went lost in the streets. Still, I decided to go out to the streets to roam by myself. I walked alleys and small roads and only return to the hotel at 11pm. My brother freaked out and thought I was crazy. I thought so too.
